Tom Lea Exhibition of 20th Century America at the Bullock Museum

Museum Exhibit or ProgramFirst major exhibition on Tom Lea opening at the Bullock Museum. On view beginning Saturday, Aug. 22. Tom Lea: Chronicler of 20th Century America, which includes paintings, illustrations, and writings that celebrate the career of Texas artist Tom Lea (1907-2001). The exhibition includes original works on loan from private collections and museums throughout the country and is the first major exhibition of Lea's body of work. Through his work, visitors encounter an America involved in international politics, a frontier movingly beautiful, and a people connected to their land, country, and culture. Lea's career included work commissioned through the New Deal Program, The Saturday Evening Post, Life magazine, and a variety of Hollywood projects. Tom Lea: Chronicler of 20th Century America will be on view through January 3, and is a collaboration among the Bullock Texas State History Museum, the Tom Lea Institute, and the Texas State History Museum Foundation.
